A medium, had you asked one, probably would have predicted that I would return to a subject that left me bemused last year, research on whether mediums are accurate. (They are, according to last year's study.)

It turns out that another study has appeared in the same journal, Explore, exploring the same subject and coming to the same conclusion.

I learned a few things when I read this study, titled "."

One is that there are at least 20 Windbridge Certified Research Mediums. Here's a .

Another is that for those people who live far from a medium, phone consultations are just as good. "Please note," according to the site, "that there is substantial scientific evidence supporting the accuracy and significance of telephone readings, so a medium does not need to be in your area to provide a reading for you. All of the mediums listed below were laboratory screened and tested using telephone readings."

And finally, I of course learned the results of the new study, namely that "a nonlocal source (however controversial) remains the most likely explanation for the accuracy and specificity of their statements."

In other words: Mediums work because they can speak to the dead.

Pretty soon, there will be enough data for a meta-analysis and guidelines.
